Rafi, who was born and raised in India, has been living in Malaysia for 10 years. His career journey began when he was offered an on-site role here and the rest, as they say, is history. In the four years that he was with us, his career progressed further and he is now a team lead for his division. Rafi believes that his career progression was possible thanks to leaders who recognise efforts and reward them accordingly. Keep scrolling to learn more about his background and his journey in Averis.

  1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in India but have been living in Malaysia for the last 10 years. I’ve been working with Averis for at least four years. My main role in the company is to hire Digital Talent.

  1. Can you tell us more about your hometown/country?

I am from Guntur, which is in the southern part of India. Here’s a fun fact – Guntur is well-known because that’s where the Koh-hi-Noor Diamond was found, which was also used on Queen Elizabeth’s crown. Guntur is famous for being one of the largest districts that produces chilli, Tobacco, and cotton. In terms of food, Biryani is a very famous dish there.

  1. Can you briefly tell us your career journey?

After I completed my MBA in HR, I got a chance to work with an ITES company as a Recruitment Associate in India. After that, I got an on-site opportunity in Malaysia and that’s how my career journey began in Malaysia. Prior to joining Averis, I worked with an insurance product-based company and Government linked company in Malaysia.

When I joined Averis, I felt that my career progression was good as we have leaders who recognise our efforts and reward them accordingly. In the last four years, I’ve been promoted twice and got awarded in 2021 for my performance.

  1. How is it like working in Averis with people from different cultural backgrounds?

In Averis, the team and management are really supportive and understandable despite different cultures. With that, I never felt any gap or difficulty working with the team and management.

  1. Is Malaysia’s work culture different from your hometown? If yes, how do you adapt to Malaysia’s work culture?

The work culture is quite different in India, as compared to Malaysia. Throughout my stay in Malaysia, it helped me understand and get in sync with other cultures, terminologies and thought processes.

  1. On a scale 1 to 10, how comfortably can you talk about your social and cultural background in the workplace? Why do you say so?

I would give it a 9, as most of the team members are equally curious to learn about other cultures and new things.

  1. Where do you think the company can improve to become more diverse, going forward?

As a team lead, I can see that we’re already going in a good direction by recruiting talents from different cultures. I see we have talent working with us from Brazil, India, Indonesia, Russia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and even Iran.

  1. Throughout your stay here in Malaysia, how have you been celebrating the month of Ramadan as well as the Hari Raya festivities? Tell us more.

Usually during the Hari raya holidays, I would travel back home to celebrate it with my family. However, if I don’t get the chance to travel, I will celebrate it with my friends here in Malaysia, indulging in Arabian food.

We’re always on the lookout for dedicated and dynamic team players! Interested to join us? Send your resume to recruitment@averis.biz.
