In this edition of ‘Voice of Averis’, she tells us about the time she decided to switch industries and her secret to having a successful career in recruitment.

  1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your decision to enter Averis?

I’ve been a HR generalist for the past four years in the IT and Waste Management industry so entering the Shared Services Center (SSC) industry as a recruiter is a brand new experience for me.

In 2021, I received a call from an Averis recruiter. After listening to the recruiter talk about possible career progression and opportunities, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and shift my career towards recruitment. I’m glad that I’ve made the decision to join Averis because of the good learning path and opportunity given, supportive team, and not forgetting the young and happy working environment.

  1. What was your application/onboard experience like?

Stepping into the new industry with several uncertainties made my journey in recruitment, not to say tough, but pretty challenging. The challenge was due to working mostly from home at that time. Thankfully, everything got better during my 2nd month thanks to the guidance and help from fellow team members and my superior.

  1. How do you describe your current team and role?

Young, dynamic and supportive. We make sure to embrace the “Work Hard, Play Hard’ motto – being professional in work and enjoying our free time filled with laughter. We also make sure to practise good teamwork and we never leave anyone behind which makes me even more glad to be part of the team. Of course, there are ups and downs at work but I would say that it feels good to have a team who cares and cheers you up when you’re down.

  1. What do you think is key to a successful career in recruitment?

Passion. Not only in recruitment, but in everything else that we do.  Passion is the fuel that drives us to achieve better and be more resilient when encountering obstacles.

  1. What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?

When you have a dream, just grab on to it and never let go. With your strength and intelligence, one day you’ll be able to conquer the world.

  1. The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is #EmbracingEquity. How do you think we can play a part in support and embrace equity?

From a recruitment perspective, we give equal opportunity to all applicants regardless of gender, race, and nationality. Embracing equity means creating an inclusive world. In Averis, everyone is given the same opportunity to shine, and together, we have to play the part of forging equity, creating a working environment that’s free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

  1. Any interview tips/resources for those who would like to be an Averian?

Be confident and don’t be afraid of change. Here in Averis, you’ll be given plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. Stepping out of your comfort zone and entering a brand new environment may not be easy but remember that discomfort is the price for admission into a meaningful life.
